Intro
The point of legal carry is to carry it. We often times start off with the largest pistol we can stuff in our pants only to a year later find ourselves leaving it at home part or most of the time. At least this is what happened to me.
Why
Like many Americans my waist line fluctuates from clothes fitting loose to snug and everything in between. When I am on my best eating habits I was able to some what comfortably carry around a micro compact 9 mm holding twelve to fifteen rounds. However any change in my waist line instantly created a much more uncomfortable experience. This would lead to me leaving it at home and as I stated earlier the point is to carry it. I found once I switched I am virtually out of excuses to carry it.
What is the upside
It fits into my lifestyle very well. We all have our challenges during our days. This made carry much less of a chore. With any clothing I choose I can pretty much always take it with me. I do not find myself having to pull up my pants before sitting down or having to randomly adjust the holster while it is jabbing me.
Trade offs
As with anything there is always trade offs, I will go over the trade offs I am aware of. First you will most likely have to carry a smaller pistol and usually larger pistols are easier to shoot. Next is capacity I went from a flush fit magazine that held twelve rounds and an extended one that held fifteen to a flush magazine that holds 10 and an extended one that holds twelve. Next trade off is caliber or potential stopping power. I went from a 9mm to .380 acp. Last trade off is easy of access or draw time. When previously carrying appendix I could usually hover about the sub two second time mark from draw to shot on target. With pocket carry I find I am hovering more like the mid two second to three second mark from draw to shot on target.
Personal thoughts
I believe it to be important that you cater many things in your life to the person that you are not who others are. I for example am not a sub five percent body fat, tip of the spear operator, that has had multiple rotations into hostile environments with a high probability of engagement, with a well armed adversaries. I am instead a very average person, that lives there life with relatively little chance of armed conflict. I am also however not ignorant of some of the hard facts of the world. So I choose the option that aligns with me most. my option many not be full sized, full powered, or a full capacity pistol but as the rapper Xzibit once said "Rather be caught with it than caught with out".
